President’s Remarks

My remarks this lunch will be brief, because it is the day before the Mount Baldhead challenge, and I am running around like a bigger idiot than I normally am all day today! The race promises to be the most successful ever under Rotary’s management. We had to cap registrations at 600, turning away several very late would-be registrants because of safety concerns in trying to manage a much larger race. For perspective, I think it’s important to note that last year, we had about 460 registered runners. That represents a 25% increase in participation just this year. Of course, we are all busy getting the race course prepped and all of the hundreds of other tasks necessary to do, done.

It’s important to remind everybody, though, that we have two other events coming up this month that need your participation. It’s our hope and expectation that every Rotarian in our club will host a foursome for the mini golf tournaments on Saturday, September 23. We need you to get your friends and family involved in helping us raise money for addressing the housing crisis in Allegan County. Please gather your friends into a foursome and register today! The registration site is at https://alleganfoundation.org/allegan-county-cup-mini-golf-tournament/.

We also have our third household hazardous waste disposal event scheduled for Tuesday, September 26. Please see Garnet Lewis to sign up for volunteering for that event.

My wife and I will be traveling through the rest of September, so Garnet will lead our lunch and discussion of internal matters on the 13th, and Mark Smaller will preside at the September 27 lunch. See you in October and thank you all!

Jim
